1 & 2 Peter

2 Peter 3:1-13

Pastor’s Notes

If the Lord returned today, June 18th, 2020, what would He see? When He looked at our government, the family, our media and entertainers, and our youth, what would He see? I think most of us have a pretty good idea what He would see because we have a pretty good look at it every day. But to take the question even farther, what would He see believers doing in the midst of all that He saw?

There is no need to write or go into great detail about all that is wrong in today’s world. It’s pretty obvious. However, I would say that there is a great need to write about what Christians are doing in the midst of it all.

In 2 Peter, Peter’s word has been loud a clear, “The Lord is going to return.”
Now at the end of Peter’s life, Peter pushes all believers to live a virtuous life while they wait for Him to do so. Peter calls us to not focus on the problem, but our responsibility to be image bearers while living within the problem.

Scripture to go along with the message

Read Romans 9-11 as Paul speaks about God’s patience in returning.
