But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.”
This is our last week in our study through Genesis and the story of Joseph. I hope that this study has grown you not only in your understanding of God’s word, but also closer to God in your personal walk. Our story ends with a beautiful conclusion of grace and mercy in a moment when grace and mercy was most needed.
After Jacob dies, the brothers retreated back to fear of what would happen to them in the aftermath. Remember, they are aware now of their sin and are ashamed of who they once were. Now, without their father to protect them, surely Joseph would seek his justifiable revenge! They are thinking these things because who wouldn’t hold on to such anger?
Believers today live a life of faith very much in the same way. Many are forgiven of their sins, born again, and faithfully walk with God while still wondering if Hell waits for them. At times this is because they believe they have not done enough good works or its because they feel like God could never truly love someone that has made so many mistakes in life. This type of fear often leads people to doubting their salvation or even believing that their salvation could be lost.
This is where the brothers were spiritually in our last chapter of Genesis. They found themselves once again standing before their brother just like they did many chapters ago, begging for salvation.
Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid…..”
Once again, we see the picture of Christ in this Old Testament story. Joseph not only reminds the brothers of the forgiveness already given, but he also guides them in understanding God’s sovereign hand from the beginning.

Throughout our time in this story, I hope more than anything God’s word has brought you greater peace in God’s presence. From the very beginning in chapter 37, God held tight chapter 50. He knew in advance what Joseph and his brothers could not see or imagine. In these truths, take peace knowing that God works the same way in your life today! God knows and is in control of the chapter before and after the one you are in right now. So no matter if you are on top of a mountain or bottom of a pit, God has you. Not only does God have you, but all things will end for His glory and for the good of those that place their faith in the finished work of His son Jesus!
