PASTOR’S NOTES
Three times you shall keep a feast to Me in the year”.
At times, the Bible can be complicated and hard to understand, but often times the Bible is quite the opposite. At its most fundamental core, God’s word is simple. Yes, there are many books, hard names to pronounce, and prophecies that are easy to misinterpret, but there is one central them and that is Jesus. Everything centers on Christ.
Everything in the Old Testament points to the coming Messiah. Everything in the New Testament (after the Gospels) points back to the life of the Messiah who came. The Gospels lift up the life in the moment of the Messiah who was in the flesh.
Everything in the Bible points to Jesus!
The Bible is a story of waiting for Jesus, living with Jesus, and now waiting on Jesus to return once again.
The Bible is a story of not only who Jesus is, but also what Jesus has done for us.
Jesus has brought us salvation!
Now for you and I, everything we do must point back to these truths while looking forward to His return. The same reality is what we see in Exodus 23. In this week’s text the people of God are walking forward, but called to look back at what has been done for them. God has saved the people and now set them free. They were told to never forget this. Their future depended on the remembrance of their past.
True freedom requires remembrance. When we lose sight of how we became free, we often times lose gratitude of the freedom we have. Making us slaves once again. This is what God calls His people to in chapter 23. Living a life pointing their attention to who God is and what God has done.
He has brought them salvation!
