Exodus

EXODUS 14

PASTOR’S NOTES

I will sing to the Lord, for He has triumphed gloriously!”

Wow, how the mood has changed so quickly!  The people went from frustration and despair to singing praises to the Heavens.  One would think, ‘What Changed?’

Last week in the message I taught on how salvation both saves and also strengthens those who place their trust if Christ.  Salvation is being born again, a new creation in the eyes of God.  Salvation also strengthens you in your journey and trials.  This is what we see in Exodus 14 when the people are faced with endless water and an angry army.  Moses reminds the people of salvation which bring them hope and strength to continue and believe.  This shows us that we need the Gospel during all parts of our life.  We need the Gospel when lost and after we are saved.  Salvation is our invitation, fuel, and hope in all that we do.

I love Exodus 15 because we see that not only does the Gospel save and strengthen, but it also brings great unity.

Just imagine all the drama and conflict that was in the air in chapter 14.  Imagine all the complaining and anger that was thrown at each other, Moses, and even God.    We are not talking about just a few people, we are talking about hundreds of thousands of stressed, confused, and worried people.  Just imagine this scene!

What could turn conflict like this to song?

What we see in chapter 15 is that salvation brings unity.  Salvation brings peace and calmness to the soul.  Salvation mends relationships and focuses the attention of the faithful.

I asked you to imagine thousands of people complaining, now imagine thousands of people singing.  Can you imagine how amazing that sounded?

“Who is like you,” the people sang together!

Conflict and frustration is the easy way that the enemy invites us to each and every day.  The enemy wants us to scream at God and each other.  Lets be reminded of salvation and all that was and continues to be done for us so that we sing and not fight and be divided.

SCRIPTURE TO GO ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE

I want you to go back and re-read chapter 14 and then go right into chapter 15.  What a wonderful picture of life and the hurdles and blessings of faith.
