Exodus

EXODUS 9:13 – 10:20

PASTOR’S NOTES

More than all the things that were in the country since it was founded.”

This is how God’s word describes his natural disaster that plagued the Egyptians. This was such a storm that there were not words to describe how devastating it was because no man had ever experienced it before. Can you imagine?!

Plague 7 was a world-changing event. With each and every punishment, severity started to increase. Like other plagues that we saw in Exodus, this plague is a call to salvation. This is the first punishment out of the 10 that God gave man a chance to respond. Will man take cover or not? Will man foolishly stand out in the field and see if God is a God of his word in power or will he run for shelter and seek salvation?

Thousands of years later, today’s current climate is no different. God promises punishment for those who foolishly test him and not seek his shelter. There are basically two ways to respond to God’s call and warning in salvation. One is to fear his word, and the other is to ignore it. Fearing God’s word means believing the good news about Jesus Christ, placing your trust and faith in him as a savior. Ignoring God’s word means to do nothing at all and to see if he is a God of his word and raining down punishment.

In the story of the exodus, some feared his word and ran for cover and experience salvation. Others tested God’s word and doubted what he said. Those people faced punishment.

There is very little difference between then and today! I pray that we all learn from the foolishness of the Egyptians and Pharaoh and choose salvation and repentance with those who fear his word.
