Exodus

EXODUS 6:26 – 7:25

PASTOR’S NOTES

Let my people go, that they may serve me”.

We are entering the part of the story where God brings the ten plagues to Pharaoh and the the people of Egypt.  Before we look at each plague and the messages behind them, we must understand why God brought punishment to Egypt and why God wanted His people out of slavery.

Let my people go, that they may serve me”.

The wickedness of the Pharaoh and the idol worship of the people of Egypt took glory away from God.  God was going to have the glory and His demands were non-negotiable.

“Let my people go, that they may serve me”.

When Pharaoh said, “No,” God not only brought judgment to him, but also the false God’s that the people worshipped.  God went right after the idol that attempted to stand in His way of glory.  The god of the Nile.

The Nile river was not simply water, but water that represented life.  The Nile represented money, transportation, recreation, and food.  The Nile was the blood that ran through the entire country; that is exactly what God turned the water into!

Today we do not worship a body of water, but we worship the same gods of money, transportation, recreation, and food that the people of Egypt did.  We worship the stock market, sports, and our careers, just like the people did thousands of years ago.  Our gods just go by different names.

The message of the first plague is a powerful message that we are all called to hear.  God will not stand second in line.  If another “god” breaks in line, God will remove them.  The people were called to see that this plague was the one true God’s work because He was the only One to worship.

“By this you shall know that I am the Lord”.

What false gods do you have in your life that have broken line?  At some point, all of us have let other gods cut line.  Hear the message of this warning in Exodus 7.  Repent and place your faith and trust in the only God that can provide all that is needed.

SCRIPTURE TO GO ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE

Read Revelation 16 on this subject and the call to repentance.
