PASTOR’S NOTES
What we see in this week’s text is a wonderful reality of the ups and downs of ministry life. Not just pastors and leaders are in ministry; we are all called to ministry as believers. We may face highs and lows in the midst of our faithful calling. For Moses, he has experienced all the knees bowed when hearing the word of God and also experienced having the pharaoh laugh at him in the same message. In this week’s text, not only does he feel the sting of laughter, but also the situation actually gets worse for the people that he is trying to help.
Have you ever experienced circumstances actually getting worse with the increase of your faith and obedience to what God has called you to do? So far in the story, one could read that neither obedience nor disobedience is working out for Moses. Have you ever felt like this in your life? You may or may not be able to relate to the character of Moses; however, we should all be able to relate to what Moses is experiencing in sanctification. The truth is, God is at work in both Moses’s disobedience and obedience for his good and God‘s glory. Moses does not realize this and doubts, but God still has a wonderful plan in what seems to be failure in ministry.
What seems to be failure is actually God growing Moses and preparing his people. However, that is much easier to see thousands of years later than in the moment. The same truth applies to each one of us today. There are many circumstances where all we see is failure, which triggers confusion, which leads to a lack of faith, when actually God is doing something for our good and his glory.
SCRIPTURE TO GO ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE
I encourage you to read the text this week before Sunday and apply it to your own life to where God is doing the same. (Exodus 5:15 – 6:13)
