Pastor’s Notes
As we finish up chapter 2 this week, God’s fingerprint continues to be shown in this Old Testament story. We started chapter 2 with Moses not yet being born and end the chapter with our hero taking a life. The story got intense really quickly!
The law that Moses would later in the story bring down from the mountain was already written on his conscience: “You shall not murder.” Really take that in. Moses one day would hold in his own hands and teach with passion the ten commandments! He would have to teach what he himself failed and struggled with. What a powerful message this is. So many directions you could go. We see that God uses those who fall short. We see that no man is worthy or blameless before God. We see the humility and faith that is needed to stay true to teaching God’s word when God’s word also points at the teacher. So many directions we could go with God’s fingerprint on this story.
One essential part of this story that I hope you see is that before Moses could hold God’s commandments, he had to face them himself. Before Israel could go out of Egypt led by Moses, Moses needed to go out of Egypt alone. We will see God accomplish so much through Moses. Moses will be a hero of heroes. So much will be asked of him. With that, God spent time preparing him. In Exodus, we not only see the sovereignty of God, but we also see His provisions and grace towards those He chooses to accomplish His great work.
