Pastor’s Notes
Welcome to our week 1 of our 12 month long study in Exodus!! I pray that you stay dedicated to our weekly devotions and join us for Sunday morning services as we teach through this wonderful book of the Old Testament.
The word Exodus means “exit” or “departure” and is perfectly fitting for this book of God’s word. The book of exodus takes place right after Genesis and centers on God’s people departing Egypt, escaping slavery. An epic story from slavery to salvation. All to the glory of God. To many, Exodus is seen as the Gospel of the Old Testament. For the Jews it is the story that defines their very existence and for believers, its the great act of redemption that points to the coming messiah. Exodus is an amazing adventure that points us to hope, strength, and new life. Exodus is referenced countless times in the New Testament as the writers would use the story to explain the salvation in Christ.
To read Exodus, is to encounter God in all of His goodness. Paul, Peter, and others would speak about how the God of the universe, the God who brought Moses and His people out of slavery, is the same God who works today. This is a truth not only applied to the characters of the Old and New Testament, but also to the people of today! Today we need the God of Exodus! We need the God who paves a way out of the slavery of sin and brings us to freedom!
Paul would tell us,
Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.”
Exodus is intended for our spiritual benefit. For our good, His glory! I hope that you have your Bible ready (I am preaching out of the New King James), highlighters in hand, and dedicated to studying each week!
Scripture to go along with the message
