Pastor’s Notes
How would people go from revival to wrath? An entire city have you!! There was a 100 years between Jonah and Nahum. Jonah ended in revival for the people of Nineveh, only for the same people, generations later to end in wrath. What could have happened in a 100 years to create such a fall? Now we know that the people who came to know God did not lose their salvation, so the breakdown occurred in generations past the people of Jonah. Same last names, city, just further generations. How could a foundation fall so quickly? Nahum and other books of the Bible do not come right out and tell us when the shift occurred, but its safe to say that the transfer of “what’s important” did not go smoothly. One would wonder if the foundational shift was a bold intentional change or a blindness in the midst of drifting? Either way, this story shows us the importance of how we live our lives and how the lives we live impacts the generations that come after us. This applies to our world, country, church, and even homes.
