Micah

MICAH 5

Pastor’s Notes

I love the Old Testament!  I love it! I love how the stories that occurred before Jesus gives us evidence that Jesus is exactly who Jesus says that He is.  Everything in the Bible hangs on the Gospels of the New Testament, but just think of how much assurance the Old Testament gives us! How much stronger our belief is through the words of the prophets.  I for one am amazed by the obvious truths God gives us in the moments before the birth of His son on Earth.  I just love it!

Micah 5 is a great example of the blessings and wonders of the Old Testament.  Just read verse 5 and try not to be amazed at what is being said! Micah took place approximately 700 years before the birth of Christ.  700 years! 700 years before the birth of the coming King and Micah tells the people that a Savior is coming out of Bethlehem!

As I write this, I notice that I am using nothing but exclamation marks after every sentence.  This is mind blowing! Bethlehem is a small country town that no ones knows or cares much about.  The scripture even says, “though you are little among the thousands of Judah”.  In the Old Testament, Bethlehem is never mentioned outside the birth of Jesus.  Talking about Bethlehem would be like talking about Huntingdon when asked to describe the United States.

So what does this tell us?  Well, either Micah has the greatest gift of guessing random facts of the future, or God is real and Jesus is exactly who He said that He was.

Micah 5 is a message of hope and rescue.  This is a chapter that should amaze you and bring tears to your face as your faith and belief grows with each word read. Micah 5 is a gift to you!

Scripture to go along with the message

Read Isaiah 9:6-7 on more wonderful scripture in the Old Testament concerning the coming Savior.
