Pastor’s Notes
This week Micah is approaching the midpoint of his book and he still holds nothing back in his message of God’s judgement coming for the people of Israel. In chapter 3, Micah goes strait to the top, calling out the leaders of both the government and church. If everything in life trickles down, then the best plan is to have words with the people up top!
“Is it not for you to know justice?”
Micah starts chapter 3 by asking the questions to all of the leaders, “If anyone is suppose to know right from wrong, isn’t it you guys!” However, Micah knows the answer to his question before he even asks it. He sees that the people of Israel and Judah have drifted from the Lord and replaced Him with unworthy idols, with their leaders to be partially to blame. Because these people were leaders, they had a greater level of responsibility and accountability before God in Micah’s eyes. They were suppose to speak truth, stand for justice, and point others to the covenant made with God. They choose to do the opposite.
Now there will be a day when we all give an account for our life and we will not be able to give excuses of bad governments and false teachers leading us astray. This doesn’t change the responsibility of leaders, though, to ensure they lead in a way that prepares each soul to give that account.
Today, Micah rings just as loud. The need for strong Godly leaders is needed today in the same way they were needed back then. Leaders within the home, schools, politics, and especially the church are in desperate demand! Today’s culture has fallen from God for many reasons. The absence of Godly leaders is one of them.
