Pastor’s Notes
As I read through chapter 2 this week, I felt like Micah was speaking to the culture of 2021. Every time I read through scripture, I stand amazed how God’s word is so relevant today as it was when it seen play out many years ago. Micah 2 is a powerful message for people of our country, living in today’s time.
The book of Micah is a message and call to repentance. Micah saw a defiance and rebellion in the people of Judah and Israel. Not only a defiance, but a blindness in their walk. The people of Israel knew who they were in the eyes of God. They knew their heritage. They were God’s people!! In their knowledge of their history, they became comfortable believing that they were grandfathered into good standings with an almighty creator. The people felt that they could love the world and love idols because of who they were classified as in the history books. Micah loudly tells the people otherwise in chapter 2.
In chapter 2, Micah basically walks the people through the 10 commandments while showing them that they have broken each and every command that God gave His people. Micah is showing the people that they are not who they are believed to be. It’s a hard reality when one comes face to face with how far they have drifted away from where they first began.
Does this sound like anything that is relevant today? Today, we are too comforted by what our forefathers accomplished. We are comforted by the foundations that were built while drifting so far away from them. Micah is speaking to us today! During the time of Micah, I am sure no one wanted to hear his message. Much like when those today preach the same message. It is needed though. We have said that we are the “greatest” for too long.
Comforted by a Godly foundation, while worshipping idols and running after false teachings. I pray we not only repent, but we learn from the mistakes the people of Judah and Israel failed to hear.
