1 & 2 Peter

1 Peter 2

Pastor’s Notes

God is good church! Who knew that when we started this series in 1 & 2 Peter that the scriptures would be so perfectly suited for all of us with everything going on in our country. God is so good!

In this week’s scripture, Peter begins to tell the people exactly what action looks like when living in a difficult world as a christian. Peter tells us that alien living during times such as these today looks like men and women who lay aside our old way of life and thinking and live life different than the world.

“To abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul”.

Peter simply reminds the people that they are born again and then challenges them to live like they know this truth. In this new born again living, Peter reminds us that every time we run headlong into fulfilling the passions of the flesh, we show the world and our God that we have forgotten that something far greater than earthly pleasures exists. That the enemy was right in the book of Job, that we are only as good as the circumstances that we find ourselves in.

Peter’s action plan consist of living such a life that the lost are intrigued and can not speak against such an honorable way of living. Peter speaks to us about the importance of our submission to our government and leaders. To follow their insight and decisions and this type of action would “silence the foolish.” This is just another wonderful example of how God is so good in giving us this scripture as we are living in a time in which this applies to us again!

God is good church! Let’s read, study, and pray together to see just how good He is through this ordained and wonderful scripture He has given us this week.

Scripture to go along with the message

Read Genesis 37-50 (13 chapters). Church, I know that we don’t often point you to 13 chapters in this section; however, these are different times we live in today. With that being said, I would love if you read through this week and even next week these chapters. I will be pulling from this story on Sunday morning as well as Wednesday night and this story of Joseph’s faith and action will be a good word to read through during difficult times like this.
