DEUTERONOMY 17:14-20

DEUTERONOMY 17:14-20

"When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations around us,” be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses."

If you have been a part of our church, you've heard me say the expression, "Everything in life trickles down." This is a concept that I came up with many years ago while serving in leadership in many secular positions I had before ministry.  Early in life I saw the importance and impact of leadership.  I saw that how employees, environments, and even the overall business model would be a reflection of who was in charge.  I noticed this truth in many good examples, and bad ones.  I saw that great leaders produced strong employees and bad leaders, often times poor employees.

My observation of this reality didn't just stop with business though.  I saw this ring true in the home, athletic teams, and politics. I saw the same truth in the church! Like it or not, the people and culture will be a byproduct of who is leading the charge.  This is why strong leadership is not only needed, but essential for flourishing.

In this week's text, Moses describes a leader that would bless and lead the people of God into a long-lasting faith in their new-found land. He would describe a character driven, servant leader who would lead by example and put others before themself.  The leader that Moses would describe would lead in such a way it would bless the people and maintain the culture that God desired.

I couldn't help but read this week's scripture and picture Jesus. As Moses described the man who the people would need most, I saw Christ in all of the bars that were set.  Jesus was the one who came to serve, love others, and lead by example.  Jesus is the leader who washed feet and took care of those who were less fortunate.  Through His great leadership, His people are blessed! Through His character, we become strong, wise, hard working, and caring to those in need.

Remember, everything trickles down!

This is exactly what Moses is calling for as the people search for who would lead them. Pray for a man who lives so differently, that he inspires you to live differently! Pray for a man that shows the attributes of Christ!

Stay faithful church,
Pastor Hunter
