DEUTERONOMY 7:1-11
Remembrance: 3,500 Years of God’s Unchanging Instructions
“Know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;”
The world around us is constantly changing, but God’s Word and His calling for His people has never changed. From Moses in Deuteronomy 7 to Peter in 1 Peter 2, separated by nearly 1,500 years, we hear the same message from the same unchanging God. God first calls His people to remember. Israel was not chosen because they were the strongest or most deserving nation, but because God loved them and remained faithful to His promises.
In the same way, everyone who has placed their faith in Jesus Christ belongs to God not because of what we have done, but because of His grace. Showing our identity is found in Him. God also calls His people to remove anything that competes for their devotion. Just as Israel was warned not to adopt the worship of the surrounding nations, believers today are called to turn away from anything that pulls their hearts away from Christ. God calls his people to reflect His character. We are set apart to live in a way that points others to Him through our faith, love, and obedience.
For 3,500 years, God’s instructions have remained the same. In a constantly changing world, we can confidently trust His unchanging character and His perfect plan. The same God who led Israel continues to lead His people today, calling us to remember who we are, live faithfully, and to glorify Him in every season of life.
