ACTS 8:26-40
"As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of my being baptized?”
If you have been following along with us in our study, you most likely felt the heaviness of last week's text and message. In Simon, you have a man who believed, baptized, and amazed by the power of God but still found himself lost! Messages like last week often shake people to the core and keep people up at night. The story of the rich young ruler and Simon are stories that make us look into the mirror and ask, "Am I a follower of Christ or simply a believer in God's existence?" These are great questions to ask, but please know that salvation was not meant to be confusing or complicated.
We see this in the text this week as the heaviness of Simon perfectly leads us to the simplicity of the Ethiopian eunuch. In this week's text, we have the opposite of a complex and heavy story, but more a story of the straightforward invitation of God in salvation.
Both men hearing the gospel, both men believing and being amazed, but only one that receives eternal life! How is this?
In the character of the Ethiopian eunuch, we see the simple awareness of sin and desperate desire to know Jesus. We see a man with no ulterior motives and a man who never asks about heaven or miracles, only wants to know more about Jesus. Personally, I love how this week's character doesn't overcomplicate the invitation and we see a childlike faith in his desire to be saved! There were not special classes he had to take or amount of good works he needed to accomplish, he simply desired to know Jesus and placed his faith in His finished work.
The scriptures tell us that he was saved!
This week I encourage you to go and read the story of the rich young ruler as well as the story of Simon again while comparing what you read to this week's text. Salvation was never meant to be "challenging" for those who are lost but meant to be genuine and simple. Man was not called to crack a code or ace a test, but to genuinely love Jesus through hearing and knowing the gospel.
In verse 30, that's what our character was doing. He was reading about the heart of Jesus (like we did last Sunday) and wanted more. Just read this week's text for yourself. He was reading the gospel, blessed by the teachings of Phillip, and he found salvation through his faith in what he heard and now loved.
This is salvation!
Stay faithful church.

SCRIPTURE TO GO ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE
Read Isaiah 53 like our character this week did. Also read the story of the rich young ruler and Simon and compare the stories with what you read this week.
